Shareefa Energy

Shareefa Energy is a poet, writer, activist, workshop facilitator originally from Highfields in Leicester. She is the author of poetry collection Galaxy Walk, endorsed by the late Benjamin Zephaniah. Her poetry is raw, honest and consistent against injustice. She’s facilitated storytelling and performance workshops internationally with all age groups across the UK and from Palestine to Sierra Leone. She has facilitated creative writing, poetry and performance workshops with schools, universities, academics, in immigration detention centres, with survivors of domestic violence and with those impacted by state violence. Her poetry has featured on BBC The One Show, Channel 4 and ITV. She has 16 years of experience of working in grassroots communities as a youth worker and has facilitated know your rights stop and search workshops resisting state violence for over a decade. Her practice revolves around poetry as activism and as a tool for self-care. She was awarded with the UK Entertainment Best Poet 2017 Award, the CKI Literature and Poetry 2023 Award, a nominee for the Muslim Women Arts & Entertainment Awards 2021 and for the Eastern Eye Arts, Culture & Theatre 2019 award by the Arts Council.
