New Partnership with Rafia Hussain Productions launches
We are thrilled to announce a brand-new partnership with Rafia Hussain Productions (RHP), a Rochdale-based theatre company committed to producing and championing work by Black and Brown artists. The company strives to create a more inclusive and equitable theatre landscape where the voices and stories of all communities are celebrated and amplified. This exciting new collaboration aims to commission, develop, and tour work nationally and internationally, all while supporting the development of artists and producer locally.
This partnership was devised to not only develop new ground-breaking productions, but also to develop the vital infrastructure for Black and Brown artists and their work. Alongside us here at The Rep, RHP will work with local partner Touchstones (Rochdale), and national partners Derby Theatre, and Exeter Northcott Theatre to develop artistic projects and platform the work through a nationwide touring consortium. Research conducted by the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama will assess the impact and evaluate this innovative producing model.
This work was made possible thanks to core funding from partners and project grant funding from Arts Council England, this initiative represents a significant step in fostering inclusivity and sustainability within the theatre industry.
Rafia Hussain, Founder and Artistic Director of RHP, said:
Black and Brown artists should be invested in properly, our stories deserve to be told, and this is about doing just that. I am so pleased to be working with such dedicated and supportive people and partners to do this and I can’t wait to see the work meet audiences in the coming years.”
