We’re proud to offer a new programme of R&D opportunities for companies and practitioners to explore new ideas and develop their work here in Birmingham at The Rep.

We offer R&D opportunities throughout the year that fall in-between our programmed schedule of performances. These might be in a rehearsal room, or in our smallest performance space (The Door, 133 capacity black box studio).

From Monday to Friday (10 – 6pm), you’ll have exclusive use of the space to develop a project, play or performance in an established and supportive setting. During these times you will be on-site at the same time as relevant Rep staff and will have a constant point of contact during your R&D.

(We recognise that freelance artists have many different working hours, and these hours may not be possible for everyone. As we develop our R&D offer, we are starting with a schedule that allows us to give artists the best support. As our Talent Development programme grows, we hope to expand our R&D offer.)

Available R&D dates for 2025 are:

Mon 24 – Fri 28 Feb (in a rehearsal room)

31 Mar – 4 Apr (in The Door)

28 Jul – 1 Aug (in The Door)

*Later 2025 dates TBC

To apply for an R&D at The Rep, please complete the form below. Applications for the above three date windows will close on Wed 5 Feb to give enough time for selection to take place. We will be in contact with all applicants regarding the status of their application shortly after this date. We will be selecting for all three R&D slots at this time.
