Codebreakers

The Story of the Enigma

Codebreakers is a fascinating exploration into one of the greatest stories of the Second World War, that of the Enigma Machine, led by Dr Mark Baldwin,

Throughout the war, the Germans had entrusted their secret communications to an ingenious ciphering machine – the Enigma. This portable, easily operated device could be set up in millions of ways and codes were changed every 24 hours…

However, at Bletchley Park, Allied codebreakers were working hard to intercept and decrypt enemy communications, and managed to successfully crack the Enigma Code, propelling the Allies to victory.

Dr Mark Baldwin has been handling Enigma machines for longer than anyone in Germany’s armed forces, and supplied his own personal machine for use in the 2014 film The Imitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

This unique show gives audiences an exciting and rare opportunity to view his original working 1944 4-rotor Enigma machine, in a hands-on demonstration.
