Legacy WM and Simmer Down Arts in conjunction with Reggae Rockz presents The History of Reggae: A Musical Journey. Follow the story of black music as it travelled from Africa to the UK, via the Caribbean and North America. Learn more about the contribution made on this journey by people of African origin in Birmingham and in particular its expression among the black African-Caribbean community, through the genre of Reggae.
Influenced by the traditional rhythm and blues of 1940s America, Reggae’s stylistic influences also include Jazz, Mento, Calypso, Ska and Rock Steady.
Get ready to hear songs from Steel Pulse, Bob Marley, Aswad, Musical Youth, Janet Kay, Desmond Dekker, Millie, John Holt, U Roy, and many more all showcasing Reggae’s diversity via Roots Reggae, Ska, Dub and lovers of Rock.
